In order to stream GAA+ on your device, you will need a strong, stable internet connection with a minimum of 5MB to stream at the lowest bitrate of 240p (a mobile 3G, 4G, 5G, LTE, etc. internet service will probably be too weak or too variable to give a good service) and a ping of less than 100m/s. The higher your download speeds, the better the quality your streaming video will be. You should achieve HD quality (720p) at 8MB.
If streaming via our website, you should be using a compatible web browser, we recommend using Google Chrome to ensure the best streaming experience. Please note, we do not support Internet Explorer, Edge is outdated and Safari can cause users issues so we advise against using any of those browsers.
The internet speed you need to enjoy GAA+ depends on how you’ll be watching. The below table shows the minimum requirements for GAA+ based on only one device being connected while using your home WiFi signal. Please be aware that this is the minimum requirement and WiFi that has multiple active connections while using GAA+ will require higher megabits per second (Mb/s).
Resolution | Continuous Speed Required | Best For... |
360p | 5+ Mb/s | Smartphones and small tablets |
720p | 8+ Mb/s | Larger tablets and connected devices |
1080p | 12+ Mb/s | Some on-demand content using connected devices (Roku, Apple TV, etc) |
1080p | 25+ | Most live content during the live streaming. |
Mb/s = Megabits per second
Please Note:
If you have multiple users streaming any content in your home at the same time you will need higher-speed internet based on that additional usage. Live GAA+ content requires a minimum download speed of 25 Mbps for a smooth stream. And if you and one other member of your family want to stream from GAA+ at the same time, that means you’ll be using 50 Mb/s in total.
Visit http://www.speedtest.net to test your internet connection. If your connection is not sufficient for streaming GAA+, please reach out to your internet service provider for further help.
Sometimes, mobile data (4G, 5G etc.) is too weak or too variable to give a good service so we would always suggest connecting to a WiFi network to avoid any issues.
Accessing Abroad
Users normally based on the island of Ireland (NI & ROI) may encounter issues accessing content produced by those broadcasters on GAA+ when abroad if you are using an Irish mobile data roaming connection.
This is because whilst roaming, your network still provides you with an Irish IP address so it thinks or will read that you are on the island of Ireland, not the country you are in. This is easily fixed.
To ensure your location is read correctly:
1. Turn off mobile data
2. Connect to a local WiFi connection
3. If you are A. using our website, clear your internet browser cookies and cache then refresh the page, if you're B. using one of our mobile apps close the app, follow steps 1 & 2 above then and reopen it
This should cause your location to be picked up correctly and allow you to access the content on our service.
